DCL acts as the Christchurch City Council’s representative for the Christchurch Adventure Park. DCL brokered the deal between the owner of Leisure Investments NZ Partnership, the developer of Christchurch Adventure Park, and its lender, the China Construction Bank (New Zealand) Ltd.
In 2017, DCL won the Debt Deal of the Year Award at the Institute of Finance Professional NZ (INFINZ) annual awards for the way the deal was brokered.
The Christchurch Adventure Park is located on the Port Hills, just 5km from the city centre and within easy distance from Christchurch International Airport. It is owned by Port Hills Leisure Ltd, which comprises a number of investors. The park reopened on 5 December 2017 after closing due to the Port Hills Fires.
Christchurch Adventure Park is one of the city’s key tourist destinations. Attractions at the Christchurch Adventure Park include a chairlift to transport users 1.8km uphill, world class mountain bike trails to suit all levels of rider, an exhilarating mountain coaster, 7 separate ziplines, a canopy tour, sightseeing, lodgings, bike rental, retail facilities and a bar/restaurant at the base of the chairlift. The Adventure Park had over 40,000 visitors in the first 2 months of opening.
Christchurch City Council, through DCL, invested $2m of equity into Phase 1 of the project which oversaw the 120km of mountain bike trails, the zip-lines, the mountain-coaster, as well as shops and café facilities. DCL owns 14.29% of Christchurch Adventure Park as a result of this investment.
